Hey Parents, Guardians, and Community members alike!
The School year is coming. Are you ready? We have attached a few resources to keep in mind as we all transition back into the school year.
Step one is to stay looped into your child’s school. There are often specific resources and unique offerings available through each school so make sure to get to know staff and sign up with school list servs to receive update and notifications and remain engaged when possible with in-person school events.
Denver Health School Based Health Centers are in 19 different schools throughout the community. They are a free resource for students (any DPS student can attend a SBHC). The centers can provide
· Physical examinations for students to be able to play sports
· Reproductive health services
· Mental health counseling
· COVID-19 tests and vaccinations
· Dental care services
A free event will take place on August 5th at Clayton Early Learning Center which will provide various routine vaccinations (including MMR, HPV, tdap and hepatitis). along with Covid-19 No pre-registration. Just show up as you are and get a jump on school year stress.
Food and Nutrition Services –Denver Public School sites are offering free meals for children ages 5- 18. Discounted meals are also available for adults. See a list of all the schools and end dates here. Did you know that Recreation Centers are also offering meals throughout the summer for youth? The program is called Tasty Food and sites and times can be found here.
Family and Community Engagement (FACE) acts as a community resource center that connects students, families, and communities with free services to increase their economic self-sufficiency and academic success. All services and classes are free to community members 16 and older—not just DPS parents. Click here to learn more. DPS also has a resource guide that provides resources, information, and education to the DPS community at any point in their life’s journey, supporting students and their families. Student Resources– In an effort to support each student, DPS recognizes that each school embodies a unique and diverse need regarding health content and skills. It is crucial to engage students in conversations regarding comprehensive health to ensure needs of all students are met. DPS resource center provide education on the following:
· General Sex Education
· Protection Methods, STIs and Pregnancy
· LGBTQ+
· Dating Violence and Sexual Assault Resources
· Menstruation Information
